Desktop Publishing
Duration 5 weeks
Two days per week
Desktop Publishing provides an introduction to Technology in Print. The majority of participants have an interest in, or a wish to gain access to, the Arts and Creative Industries, or they are involved with voluntary organisations and community groups who would like to prepare material for print. Formal qualifications are not required.
This course is aimed at individuals who have specific DTP skill requirements. Participants are encouraged to devise a print-based project and the course is directed towards the realisation of this through software training and general principles of print preparation.
Course Content

On this course you will learn to:

scan and manipulate images;

create basic page layouts;

develop your own print project

Approximately two thirds of the course is spent in directed tuition. After an introductory machine management session, you will learn the following industry standard software:

Adobe Photoshop for scanning, manipulation and digital preparation of images.

QuarkXPress for page layout and on-screen graphical composition.

The remainder of course is used to develop individual projects or may include further tutorials as appropriate.
