| This course provides a starting-point for those with an interest in gaining computer skills for work, for further study, for home, or to support a small business. There are no formal entry requirements. | ||||
| Course Content | ||||
|
This course is suitable for absolute beginners. Classes are small and there is plenty of tutor support and encouragement. The first two days of the course involve an introduction to computers and basic machine management. The weeks that follow cover standard business uses of computers, using programs from Microsoft Office Professional: Word Processing - produce a CV and practice letter writing using Word. Gain confidence in opening documents, saving and copying files. Spreadsheets - use the most widely used spreadsheet package to produce simple calculations and accounts. Databases -use Microsoft Access, for computerised record-keeping. This database is used by employers, voluntary organisations and private companies to organise contacts, customers etc. Tutor support is available throughout the course. You will also have assistance in presenting your skills and experience to best advantage in job applications, CVs and letters. |

| This course leads to a nationally recognised qualification, CLAIT-Certificate in Computer Literacy and Information Technology, awarded by the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Exam board (OCR). | ||||
| Progression Routes | ||||
| Integrated Business Technology Stage 2 (IBT 2); a variety of higher level computer courses in further education; employment in which basic computer literacy is needed. | ||||
